Nursing Jobs in Wales, United Kingdom

A career in nursing in the UK can lead to stability, growth, and recognition around the world. Among the options available, nursing jobs in Wales stand out as one of the most attractive career paths. With some of the best NHS hospitals and private healthcare facilities, Wales offers structured progression, secure employment, and an excellent standard of living for nurses from around the world.

For international nurses, the path to joining the register involves NMC registration, English language proof, CBT and OSCE exams, and proper documentation. The following sections will explain everything you need to know, from eligibility requirements to the welcoming work culture you can expect upon arrival.

Eligibility & NMC Registration for International Nurses

The Nursing and Midwifery Council says that all nurses who want to work in Wales must register with them. While the process may appear complicated for nurses trained abroad, step-by-step assistance ensures it is both clear and manageable.

 Step 1: Eligibility Assessment

  • International nurses begin with an eligibility and qualification check, where the NMC verifies your nursing education and registration in your home country.
  • You’ll need to upload your qualification certificates, regulator details, and, where applicable, an official translation if documents are not in English.
  • The qualification evaluation fee is £140 (₹16,667; subject to change), non-refundable.

Step 2: Identity & Health Verification

  • A valid passport copy is mandatory.
  • Evidence of good health, character references, and English proficiency must also be provided.
  • If your name differs across documents, you’ll need to provide legal proof such as a marriage certificate or deed poll.

 Step 3: Registration Application

Once your eligibility is confirmed, you have two years to complete the rest of the process. This includes the Test of Competence (CBT and OSCE) if required. Once passed, you’ll pay the final registration fee and officially be added to the NMC register, opening doors to nursing vacancies in Wales.

At Dynamic Health Staff, we guide candidates step-by-step through the NMC application, making the process smoother and less stressful.

English Language, CBT & OSCE Requirements Explained

For international nurses, the NMC requires proof of English language competence and successful completion of the Test of Competence.

 English Language Requirements

You can meet this requirement through one of three routes:

  • A passing score in IELTS or OET.
  • A nursing qualification that was taught and examined in English.
  • One year of recent nursing practice in an English-speaking country.

 Computer-Based Test (CBT)

  • Cost: £83 (₹9,881) for the first sitting.
  • Covers Part A: Numeracy and Part B: Clinical knowledge.
  • Resits cost between £50 and £83 (₹5,952 – ₹9,881), depending on whether you fail part or full.

 Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

  • Cost: £794 (₹94,528) for the first sitting.
  • Test hands-on skills at UK test centres such as Northampton, Ulster, Oxford Brookes, Leeds, and Northumbria.
  • Partial resits cost £397 (₹47,264), while a full resit is £794 (₹94,528).

The CBT and OSCE must be completed within two years of each other. Once passed, the results are valid for five years.

We provide IELTS and OET coaching, CBT guidance, OSCE preparation workshops, and orientation support before nurses arrive in the UK, helping them feel confident and prepared for success.

Note: CBT and OSCE fees, as well as test centre locations, are set by the NMC and may change. Please check the official NMC website for the most up-to-date information. The INR conversions provided are based on exchange rates as of August 2025 and may vary with fluctuations in currency values.
